Sony allegedly planning PS4 and Vita bundle for 'around $500'

Aug 05, 2013 - 8:45 PM - by GaryOPA
Priced at the same bucks as XB1, you will get both Sony systems!

Looking to take advantage of Remote Play and the ability to stream and play PS4 games directly on your Vita handheld device. Sony is rumored to be working on a new bundle that combines the two systems

Don't you just love rumors started by a well-placed 'anonymous source':

According to Inside Gaming Daily's "well-placed anonymous source," the alleged bundle will cost "around $500" and release "at the end of the year."

First thing to note: This is only a rumor and should be treated as such.

Secondly, it just doesn't add up.

The PS4 is currently listed for $399, while the Vita sells for $249. By combining both in the $500 package, Sony would be taking a $150 hit on the Vita and for what?

The PS4 is already selling out at retailers and while the Vita sales continue to struggle, the ability to play on the handheld device (coupled with a slight price cut perhaps?) could help increase sales.

There's no real reason to bundle the two, especially so close to the PS4's launch and for such a cheap price.
Like the quoted text above, I personally don't believe in this well-placed 'anonymous source' that has become yet another wild rumor!

EXCLUSIVE: Cobra ODE - Shipping This Week to Resellers

Aug 04, 2013 - 11:01 PM - by GaryOPA
Samples to reviewers will be received this week and more info coming soon!

Team Cobra has finally sent out news to resellers and reviewers that they will be finally get their Cobra ODE devices later on this week, so stay tuned for more info and reviews later on this week!

Here is the email from Cobra ODE earlier today, they also point some recent wrong information floating around the 'net on how their device works, and point out the flaws on other ODE's on the market and key features on how their product is better, but we will see first-hand in a few days when the reviews are in from actual PS3 users, plus we will be posting more info later on this week.

Cobra ODE is shipping to resellers this week.

At the same time we feel it necessary to bring to the public's attention that some competitors are spreading lies and attempting to bully customers into purchasing their products. We have remained pretty quiet on these issues until now. However when the competition stoops too low, then its time to set a few things straight

Firstly, to say that Cobra ODE will be "easily blocked" is a very untrue. From time to time an update may be required to our product to ensure best performance and compatibility. We fully expect to roll out frequent updates to our product, which is the very reason our hardware platform is upgradable.

Whilst the competition uses a different approach to us, and this may or may not be less visible to big brother, it is also less flexible and relies on a database of titles in order to play the desired ISO. If your desired ISO is not in their database, then you are unable to play it...

Cobra ODE does not have this restriction. You can play an ISO without the need for it to be in a database...

Furthermore, much noise is being made about wifi connectivity, which requires a wifi dongle on the competing product. Remote control via wifi and even bluetooth of our UI could be made possible in the future through a homebrew web server running on any PS3 (including 2K5/3K and 4k) via our ODE platform, without the need for a wifi dongle.

There are many reasons to purchase Cobra ODE, including the fact that we support both PATA and SATA consoles with a single device as opposed to a range of adapters, and not forgetting that we have an easier install on 2k5/3k and 4k consoles.

As for HW based AES encryption, we support AES encryption and decryption in hardware on our Smart Fusion device as well as a bunch of other neat features.

Cobra ODE is not a cheap device, granted. However one only has to look at the number and calibre of components used to realize that we offer a flexible, feature packed and versatile platform, which is what you'd expect from the Cobra Team.

PlayStation hardware sales lull as PS4 storm brews

Aug 01, 2013 - 6:11 PM - by GaryOPA
Kaz you believe it? I think the storm in Kansas, has blow the Vita sales data away!

According to Sony's latest financial results, fewer PS3s, PS2s and PSPs were sold in the quarter ending 30th June 2013 than they were during the same period last year. Vita wasn't mentioned.

Sony's sales data is in for last month, as it shows that PS3 sales are much lower then this time last year, and that is of course understandable with the new PS4 just around the corner.

In the other dept. PS Vita, Sony is still doing the 'combined' math of Vita + PSP, so we have no clue how badly it is doing, but from the looks of it, sales are way down also on that side.

Combined PS3 and PS2 sales were 1.1 million, and last year they were 2.8 million. Combined Vita and PSP sales were 0.6 million, and last year they were 1.4 million.

This was offset by a rise in game sales (no doubt boosted by The Last of Us), numbers rising from 43 million last year to 64 million this year.

As such, Sony's Game segment performance was pretty much flat year-on-year, raking in $1.2 billion.

However, operating income for the segment plummeted 322 per cent down to -$149 million, which means the PlayStation business continues to make a loss. Sony attributed this to "an increase in research and development expenses related to the upcoming introduction of the PlayStation 4".

Sony also noted that it "received accolades" when it showed PlayStation 4 at E3 this year, and we all know that means.

Next quarter, ending 30th September, Sony expects Game segment sales to "increase significantly". It's a busier quarter in general, but could Sony also be alluding to some kind of PS3 price cut or deal to come? Gamescom is just around the corner after all, as is PS4.

Broadly, business was good for Sony. All-in-all a net loss of -$2.5 billion this time last year was turned into a $35 million profit this year.
